this week we hear from Jodi Joseph…
“I knew these bags were special, I just didn’t know how special these bags were.”
– Hand2Hand Mom
It was a typical Hand2Hand packing night. Volunteers gathered together at Byron Community Ministries to pack up food bags for the 5 different schools that South Harbor and Rush Creek Bible Church partner together to serve families within our community. At the beginning of the school year a permission slip goes out to all families within a school giving them the option to sign up for Hand2Hand,volunteer with Hand2Hand or a combination of both.
This packing night was typical in the fact that we gathered everyone at the beginning for introductions, devotions and prayer. And as were going around the circle for introductions we met for the first time a new sweet family of three. Mom, Dad and their son had decided to join us as they had heard about Hand2Hand through the school and had received food bags as a family.
As the night went on we enjoyed conversations about life and laughed about how quickly our kids could pack these bags. (Our H2H kid volunteers rock! They show us adults up every time by their fast paced packing skills!) At the end of the evening we gathered again in a circle and this time to prayer over all of these food bags going out to our students and families that they would be encouraged and find these bags of food to be a blessing to them. We said our Amen and volunteers scattered to clean up and head for home. It was then that this mom stopped me with tears in her eyes and said, “I knew these bags were special, I just didn’t know how special these bags were.”
It’s these “special” bags that deliver hope…HIS LIVING HOPE each and every week to just under 150 students in the Byron Center schools. Thank you for your generous gift of volunteer time and food donations through out this past school year!
