Welcome to Student Ministries

Our mission:  Helping Students Find Their Way Back to God

All the teaching at South Harbor is designed to be meaningful and impact students where they are, and help them take a step closer to God. We want each student to know and experience God’s love and grace while cultivating authentic relationships with other students and leaders. If you are someone who doesn’t know Jesus or you have known Him their whole life, our teaching engages students to figure out what it means to grow as a person, as part of a community, and in their spiritual lives. Our prayer is that you and your children will grow in your passion for God and live it out in every area of your lives.

Concerned that you “won’t fit in”?  Don’t be! We currently have seven different school systems (as well as many who are homeschooled) represented in our youth group; in other words, we have made it a priority to do away with cliques.  We think Jesus would want it that way.

About our Sunday night format… Matthew 22:37-40 and Matthew 28:19 are the words of Jesus which are commonly called the Great Commandment and the Great Commission.  They are the two most important statements which give insight into how disciples of Jesus live, and what our mission should be.  From them, three dominant themes of a community of disciples emerge:

UP – worship together  | IN – gaining community as a group | OUT – serving our community

  • +Trips and Events

Some of our trips and events that we run annually are; Winter Retreat, Youth Week and Summer Discipleship Trip.

Winter Retreat: February 8-10, 2018  This year we will again be on the shores of Lake Michigan at Camp Geneva.  Outdoor games and amazing worship are just some of the fun we’ve packed in as we grow together and learn more about God. More information including cost will be available soon.

Youth Week: June 23-28, 2019  Middle and high school students will partner with ministries throughout West Michigan for mission work all week long. Details will be announced soon.

Summer Discipleship Trip: Information coming soon!

  • +Fundraisers for Trips

In order to reduce the cost of trips for families, we will have one fundraiser this year. Students are paid for the hours they work at the fundraisers. The money earned goes directly into the student’s account which can only be used for trips or Youth Week.

    MYSTERY DINNER | WINTER 2019

In the winter we will plan a mystery dinner, where guests are invited to solve a mystery as they eat. Students will be able to earn money by either acting in the cast or preparing food/serving.

Please do not let financial issues stop your student from attending a trip or event. We have a scholarship fund set up for students who would love to go on a trip but are experiencing financial difficulties.

Communication

We send a weekly email to keep parents well informed of what we’re teaching in Student Ministries each Sunday so that you can carry on the conversation at home! It also includes upcoming events and general information so you’ll never miss what’s going on!  If you’re not receiving this weekly communication and would like to, email Matt Kooman: matt@southharbor.org
